What is it you mean you need a virus protection program?

Personally, I would suggest something along the lines of AVG. I've used AVG for quite a while and find that it's quite good at fending off attacks.
Alternatively, you could use ZoneAlarm, which is practically built to fend off attacks from hackers and other malicious connections/software. If you truly know what you're doing then I would suggest you try ZoneAlarm first, but only if you feel comfortable with it's complexity. If you'd rather go for something a tad simpler, maybe you should try out AVG first. Whichever you end up choosing should be just fine, but I do recommend you at least try both of them before making a final decision.

I think AVG has worked for me very good.

If you're looking for a very good firewall program, Outpost Firewall is the best. It also comes with a built in AV program, but will automatically disable itself when another AV is detected already installed on your computer. It basically intercepts all outgoing and incoming data feeds of programs. Allowing you to allow or deny every connection a program is trying to make.

Outpost Firewall Pro: The Essential Personal Firewall (http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpost/)

Highly recommended!

I use Avast and it is great, I have not had a virus since...only I can't go to some filesharing sites lol

I suggest you use AV. Unlike me, I'm to lazy to re-download it so I have no firewall or antivirus. I probably have hundreds of virus, but me no cares my new PC is coming soon xD

I suggest Avast! (http://filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/) antivirus with ZoneAlarm (http://filehippo.com/download_zonealarm_free/) firewall and Spybot - Search & Destroy's (http://filehippo.com/download_spybot_search_destroy/) TeaTimer. These are what I use; and they are all free.
