Hello friends - OmegaWoW is making a comeback; a damn fine comeback, ten years after its initial launch. We'll be launching on January 25th, but we've got a few things we need to go through first.

GENERAL DETAILS:

  • The server will be running on the good ol' 3.3.5a, with content being locked and following a hybrid progression system.
  • By hybrid progression I mean that new raids and seasons will be released as soon as a good part of the playerbase completes the current content. We don't want anyone to power-cry through six months of Trial of the Crusader.
  • Rates will be as follows: 3X XP, 2X Reputation, 2X Honor, 3X World Drop (not three times the items that drop, but items like Damaged Necklaces have three times their usual drop rate), 1X Dungeon/Raid Drop.
  • We are running an almost flawless core, and our (almost entirely) new team has years of experience across the private server spectrum. All areas of running a server are covered.

PROGRESSION DEETS:

  • We're starting off with the Realm First race, then heading into Obsidian Sanctum, Naxxramas and Eye of Eternity. The progression then follows your usual expected course (Ulduar, TOTC, Icecrown Citadel, Ruby Sanctum).
  • Each patch will be fortified by weekly events, culminating in one big event each month, these serving as a break from the content everyone's already accustomed to. We found it's very important to give players a reason to come together and socialize, and it tends to be fun for the team to organize anyway!

WE GET IT, BUT WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ABOUT YOUR PROJECT ANYWAY?

Wrath of the Lich King turned ten years old this year. It's amazing that, after so many years, it is still regarded as one of World of Warcraft's best expansions. That said, it's ten years old. While it's still fun to play, there are not really any new experiences to be made from simply playing the game. This is why we are introducing several systems to spruce up the game. Those systems, while not "Blizzlike", are separate from the base game. We don't want to ruin the experience of anyone who wishes for a pure, Wrath of the Lich King experience. These systems are simply an extra way of enjoying the game you all love.
Here's a small preview of what we have in store for you:

COMMUNITY CHALLENGES:

  • Community challenges are activities that serve to bring the whole community together in working towards certain goals, unlocking server-wide rewards and features. Here's a simple example:
  • Recruit-A-Friend: Unlocked through players claiming all of the race / class Realm Firsts. In this particular example, only a handful of players will end up contributing to this challenge, but it is open to anyone willing to put in the time investment. Recruit-A-Friend will indeed launch once this criteria is met, in order to give everyone a fair chance at snatching that realm first during the opening weeks.
  • Other community challenges will include unlocking Transmogrification through running old content for certain items, finding the required components to assemble a portal to the Labyrinth (a highly successful event in the past), and maybe even opening the gates to a certain big, ugly eye.

FANCY FORUM:

While not exactly an interesting feature for the regular player, I feel the need to mention this due to my crippling addiction to forums. We have a fancy forum. Check that thing out.

VOTE SYSTEM: GONE. ENTER: OMEGA SYSTEM:

Voting sites are archaic. Instead of having people slave over voting on six websites, we're changing that with our own system. Points will be accrued through doing a variety of activities, from just spending time in-game, to killing Sartharion with three drakes up and flying about. These points will, of course, be tradeable for in-game rewards, as we're all used to.
