Can't patch to anything but newest 4.2.2....help? Pls? :)

I've got game discs that get me to Wrath, then patch exe's that get me to 4.0.1.13205....after that, all that's out there are these MPQ's and .tfil's.
Tried putting MPQ in [wow/], [wow/data], [wow/updates]....because I get different instructions for that in different websites. The .tfil goes in [wow/], same everywhere on that. Also tried renaming the MPQ from "wow-update-13287.MPQ" to "wow-12345-45678-Win-final.MPQ"

All this and no joy. The Blizzard Updater.exe says no patch to apply, and...

IT BOILS DOWN TO:
When you run launcher.exe, it updates launcher.exe and begins downloading EVERYTHING up to 4.2.2.....I'm missing something here, and hope someone here knows what to do!

Try downloading a Cata 4.3.4 No Install torrent. maybe try Molten-Wow.com
